RUSSELLVILLE, AR (March 13, 2015) – On Friday, March 13, 2015 at 5:22 AM, five units of Russellville firefighters, including 3 engine companies, 1 truck company, and 1 rescue company, under the command of Battalion Chief Brent Hamm, along with the Fire Chief and Fire Marshal’s Office, responded to a structure fire at 408 South Arkansas Ave. Upon arrival, fire companies found heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of a two-story, multi-family dwelling. Firefighters entered the structure and quickly discovered that the fire had advanced to the second story. As the fire progressed, the operation transitioned to defensive. Multiple handlines were used to extinguish the fire. Approximately 50% of the structure sustained heavy fire damage. All eight of the building’s occupants escaped without injury but were displaced due to the extent of fire damage. No firefighters were injured as a result of the fire. Mutual aid was provided by Pottsville and Dover City Fire Departments. South Arkansas was closed to traffic during the incident. Fire units remained on scene until 7:44 AM.
