[ARCHIVED] Stay Home and Stay Healthy

Social Distancing

Stay Home and Stay Healthy

Citizens in Russellville, as your Mayor, at this time, I am asking that individuals in our community stay home as much as possible and only travel outside as needed to get food and supplies or to perform necessary functions.

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the United States, it is now more important than ever to follow the health department and CDC guidelines to limit contact with other people. Those that can work from home are strongly encouraged to do so. Staying at home does not prohibit you from being outside in the fresh air. This is a unique circumstance but presents a great opportunity to take advantage of extra time with children.

COVID-19 has forced many citizens to change their daily routines, including working from home in some cases, canceling events, and limiting social contact with other people. It is important that every citizen be very active in doing their part to limit the spread of the virus. The goal is to “flatten the curve” as seen below. The objective is to reduce the number of cases so that it does not overwhelm the healthcare system.

Staying home as much as possible and limiting trips outside of the house except for essential needs such as grocery shopping, health appointments, and restaurant food pickups are strongly encouraged. Just sending one person to make trips outside of the home is recommended. Although community mitigation measures can be disruptive or inconvenient, these precautions are to protect the public’s health especially those at a higher risk.

Public Officials and Health Care Facilities are working around the clock to stay ahead of COVID-19. The public may notice the increasing use of PPE - masks, goggles, gowns - on just regular routine calls. This is not because we suspect a COVID virus necessarily, it is because we want to not only keep our first responders safe, but keep the citizens of the city and county safe. Emergency operations, including 911, are running as usual. Staying at home and social distancing when in the public may be the single most important recommendation that reduces the impact of COVID-19.
