175th Anniversary of Oakland Cemetery and Decoration Day 2018

Oakland Cemetery will be celebrating her 175th year of service to Russellville and surrounding communities. In an ongoing effort to keep Russellville Oakland Cemetery beautiful and to engage our community in meaningful service opportunities, we are inviting the community to come and participate in Decoration Day here at Oakland, and to help us celebrate the 175th Anniversary of Russellville Oakland Cemetery. We invite all Veterans and their families, all our past Mayors and their families, and also all descendants of Russellville’s founding families.
Decorating of the graves: 10:00 am until 4:00 pm
11:00 am - Welcome and Invocation: Pastor Kelly Pearson of 1st Presbyterian Church Dardanelle
11:20 am - Tribute to Veterans – Color Guard National Guard and Pope County Veterans Services
11:35 am. - Guest Speaker: Russellville’s very own Mayor Randall (Randy) Horton
12:30 pm to 2:00 pm - An old fashioned picnic sponsored in part by: Arvest Bank, Tyson Foods, Simmons Bank, KFC, and the Petray family
All attendees are welcome to bring their own picnic if they choose
Music provided by IMC Studios
From 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm activities will include:
Self-guided walking tour of historical and local persons – 2 different tours which may overlap
Information booths covering Genealogy, History of the area – Charity Park & Lori Latimere
Information of Oakland – Oakland Cemetery Commissioners - Director
Exhibits: Pre-war era automobiles – Valley Antique Auto Club
Exhibits: Horse and buggy/carriage – Wilson Family
Cemetery Staff will be on hand to assist families and answer questions. Parking is limited. Please be courteous of the others visiting in the cemetery.
