On Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 3:31 PM, three units of Russellville firefighters, under the command of Acting Battalion Chief Chris Vick, responded to a request for assistance on Lake Dardanelle. Upon arrival, fire companies discovered four kayakers stranded during a severe weather condition. Firefighters, along with State Park personnel, utilized a pontoon boat and water rescue throw bags to rescue the victims. All four victims were transported to waiting EMS personnel on shore. The victims, who were kayaking in open water when a sudden storm disabled them, were in good condition at the time of the rescue.
