On Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 6:55 AM, four units of Russellville firefighters, including 3 engine companies and 1 truck company, under the command of Battalion Chief Kurt McBryde, along with the Fire Marshal’s Office and other command staff, responded to a structure fire at 3433 Bernice Avenue, Premium Protein Products. Upon arrival, fire companies found heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of large rendering facility. Firefighters entered the structure to battle the flames, then deployed the aerial ladder to transition to a defensive operation. The main plant area sustained heavy fire damage with partial roof collapse, while the remainder of the structure sustained moderate heat and smoke damage. Employees on-site discovered the fire and escaped without injury. No firefighters were injured as a result of the fire. Fire units remain on scene at press time. The Russellville Police Department assisted with traffic control and site access. Preliminary contents and property losses are unknown at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
