[ARCHIVED] RUSSELLVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Hazmat Response

RUSSELLVILLE, AR- On Friday, May 6, 2016 at approximately 10:43 AM, the Russellville Fire Department’s Hazmat Unit, along with Battalion 1, under the command of Battalion Chief Kirk Slone, responded to an active fuel spill at 18500 Hwy 27 N. A 28ft. tandem-axle flatbed truck carrying 8 liquid chemical containers, overturned and spilled approximately 3000 gallons of chemicals into a ditch. Upon arrival, fire companies/hazmat technicians, assisted in diking and retaining the spill. The driver of the truck was transported by Pope Co EMS. His condition is unknown. Other agencies involved in the response included ASP, DOT, OEM, ADEM, PCSO, USFS and Hector FD. Fire units remain on scene at press time. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
